**Abu Bakr As-Siddiq** (full name: **Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafah al-Taymi**) was the first caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate. He was given the title *As-Siddiq* (“the truthful”) because he always affirmed the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, especially during the Isra and Mi’raj. He was called **Abu Bakr** because he used to care for young camels (*bakar* means young camel).
His rule lasted from **11–13 AH (632–634 CE)**. The greatest challenge was dealing with apostates and those who refused to pay zakat. Many Qur’an memorizers were killed in these battles, so Abu Bakr ordered the compilation of the Qur’an to preserve it.
He also dispatched Usama ibn Zayd’s army to Syria, suppressed rebellions, and reinforced zakat as a duty. Abu Bakr died in 13 AH and was buried next to the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah.
