Khulafa al-Rashidin #1

Hello, good evening. Tonight, I have just finished reading a book about the history and culture of Islam. The subtopic was about the leadership of the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn, the leaders who succeeded after the passing of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The story goes that after the Prophet ﷺ passed away, he did not leave any specific instruction or will about who should succeed him as the leader. Because of this, there was a serious discussion among the companions about who should take the leadership.

Some suggested that it should be ‘Ali ibn Abi Ṭālib, because he had once been appointed by the Prophet to lead the prayer when the Prophet was ill. Others thought that the leader should come from Ahl al-Bayt, such as Abdullah ibn Abbas or ‘Ali ibn Abi Ṭālib. Another opinion was that the leader should be chosen from the Quraysh, particularly from among the Muhajirun and the Ansar.

After reading this, I became curious about the meaning of Muhajirun and Ansar. So I searched it on Google. It turns out that the Muhajirun were the people who migrated from Makkah to Madinah, leaving behind their homes, families, and wealth because the situation in Makkah was very difficult at that time. Meanwhile, the Ansar were the people of Madinah who welcomed the Muhajirun with kindness. They provided them with housing, food, and support sincerely.
